Copyright protects your original work from being used without consent.
For something to be copyrightable it must pass 3 requirements.
- It must be saved. For example, you can copyright a video of your live performance because it's saved on a computer. But, you can't copyright the performance if there is no video.
- It must be real, not an idea. Basically, you can't copyright an idea. Idea protection is for patents. You must have turned your idea into a real thing, such as a painting.
- It must be original. You can't copyright someone else's work. Your work has to be creative.
